family get-together are always good for your mom's birthday. she'll feel more appreciated when she sees all her relatives and close friends coming on her birthday like a reunion for the whole family.
If she is fond of opera then treat her to it. You can accompany her to her favorite museum or place at your expense of course.
buy her a ticket to a great eco-tourism destination, her place of choice :)
that depends on how active your mom is, if her social life is still part of her everyday schedule, then you can take her to a fabulous party that's near her birthday, maybe a fashion show, a launching of a new product with cocktails after. or if she maintains a low profile, you can take her to the beach with the family and have clean, stress-free fun ;)
Just offer to do something for her. Some kind of a favor. Like, something that she usually does. (ex. cooking, cleaning the house, etc.)
how about a tea party with some of her closest friends and yourself.
Why don't you treat your mom to a relaxing massage? Since you want to give her something different this time, why not treat her to a relaxing experience like that?
