First-time Meeting with Girlfriend's Parents

Other My brother is meeting his girlfriend's parents for the first time on his girlfriend's birthday. They're having dinner at her parent's house and my brother wants to bring something. However, he has no idea what to give his girlfriend's parents during their first meeting. Of course, he wants to make a good impression but do not want to appear too assuming or boastful. I couldn't think of gift ideas right now and I hope to get your help on this.

You could bring another dish that you can add to what they already prepare or a dessert maybe.
If your brother has time, he could also find out what his girlfriend's parents are presently into; like past time, hobbies, special interests. He could zero in on an item that will be useful to the parents and which they still don't have. Otherwise, a good-ol' cake would probably do...
Aside from bringing some dinner wine, you can also bring some flowers for both your girlfriend and her mom.
